Work experience is a valuable way in which young people can find out what work is like while they are still at school. It means that they spend time in a placement doing real work for a real employer in a real organisation. Suitable work placements are not always easy to find and it is not possible for young people under 16 years of age to do some jobs. As part of their school curriculum, a period of work experience is being organised for students in Year 10 in March 2013. The placements will be advertised on a database and students will be asked to complete an on-line application where they will be invited to make their choices.
Students who wish to find their own placements must provide the school with full details using the ‘self placement’ form. This can be collected from Mrs Bridson in the school office. We require a minimum of two months notice in order for my-work-experience.com to make the necessary checks. Placements cannot be used until these checks have been completed.
Our Work experience is to be launched in School on Friday 9 November in Year 10 assembly. The work experience process will be explained to the Year 10 students and they will be told how to use the database/site and how to make their choices. On Friday 30 November & 7 December students will be given a chance in tutorial time with their tutor and Mrs Bridson to log onto the iom.learnaboutwork.org site, a direct link is on this site, just click on the Work Expereince Portal at the top of the page. This is a veryan webview internet system that allows the student to view information about work experience jobs. Students will be given their name and personal pin number for the system in their tutorial time. They will then be able to access the site from home/school. All students will be expected to have made their SIX choices by Friday 25 January 2013. Another good site for information for students to learn more about work experience is my-work-experience.com and the log is iomwork and the password is student12.
