Notes

The Department of Education has passed on the following information:

There may be some occasions where an item of jewellery cannot reasonably be removed.  An example is when ears have been pierced and ear studs have been inserted to allow the pierced holes to heal before earrings may be worn.  The studs constitute a hazard when worn during physical activity, but equally infection may result if they are removed.  A possible solution is to tape the ears with the studs in place so that any accidental knock to that part of the body will not result in the pin of the stud penetrating the skin below and behind the ear.  A satisfactory compromise solution of this kind can usually be arrived at in such circumstances.
