St. Ninian’s High School (Manx Gaelic: Schoill Ard Noo Ninian) is a secondary school located in Douglas, on the Isle of Man. The School is set over two different sites, catering for Years 7 to 13. There are currently over 1300 students on the school roll. St. Ninian’s High School was formed in 1985 after a review took place of secondary education in Douglas.
Students can have the option of studying from a range of over 30 exam subjects delivered by our 15 fantastic departments.
The Lower School: ‘Bemahague site” was opened in September 2012. It is a superb modern building with excellent facilities including two sports halls, astro turf pitch, tennis/netball courts, lanscaped grounds, dance studio, assembly/performance hall, a suite of ICT rooms, five science labs and a hydro therapy pool. There are far more facilities than space to list however one major feature is the care taken to ensure all students can enjoy a full and inclusive education on the site. The Lower School is home to students in key stage 3 so Years 7, 8 and 9.
The Upper School: ‘Ballaquayle site’ was built and completed in 1927 in what was then Outer Douglas. Now it is based within the town boundary. The Upper School is home to students in key stage 4 comprising years ten and eleven; as well as containing the School’s Sixth Form centre where Years 12 and 13 study.
St. Ninian’s is a thriving school which is working very hard to further develop it’s links with the community. To this end the school’s sports facilities are used by outside groups on both sites throughout the week and weekend. In addition we have cookery, art, dance and zumba classes taking place within the wider school. If any group would be interested in making use of the community facilities on either site at St. Ninian’s High School please do contact the school on 648800.
